Aprilia library faces naming dispute and staffing crisis

Political groups Giovani Europeisti Verdi (GEV) and Europa Verde have raised concerns regarding the management and state of the Municipal Library in Aprilia, Italy. The groups are criticizing a recent decision by the current commissioner management to change the name of the library's main hall, which was previously named ‘SALA GIACOMO MANZÙ’. GEV is supporting a popular petition to revoke this decision and restore the name to honor the historical connection between the artist Giacomo Manzù and the local territory.

Beyond the naming dispute, the groups have denounced the library's operational condition, describing it as a state of “abandonment and improvisation.” Key issues cited include a long-term lack of a professional librarian and significant staffing shortages. The groups noted that afternoon closures were only avoided through the temporary assistance of volunteers and questioned why the “Servizio Civile” project, which previously provided staff, was not activated this year.
