Aprilia sports facility controversy involves municipal debt and construction disputes
A dispute has emerged in Aprilia regarding the PalaOrlandi sports facility and the management of the Ricreatorio Pio II. Critics argue that the municipality is attempting to assume the approximately 1.9 million euro debt of the private entity, Ricreatorio Pio II, under the guise of sports policy. Concerns have been raised regarding the lack of transparency, the absence of an independent property valuation, and the potential long-term maintenance costs of associated apartments.
Separately, the construction company SOGEIM has issued clarifications regarding the Palazzetto dello Sport. SOGEIM stated that the facility, completed in April 2023 at a cost of 4.4 million euro, is an urbanization work that the municipality will receive free of charge. The company addressed previous concerns regarding fire safety compliance, noting that after a testing process and a legal challenge at the TAR, technical meetings with the Fire Brigade confirmed the system is up to code and requires no further adjustments. The municipality has recently called for a technical meeting with CONI and the Fire Brigade to re-evaluate documentation.
