APT Pranoto Airport operations remain stable amid Kalimantan forest fires

Flight operations at APT Pranoto Airport in Samarinda, East Kalimantan, remain stable and safe despite ongoing forest and land fires across the island. I Kadek Yuli Sastrawan, Head of the APT Pranoto Airport Management Unit, confirmed that visibility at the airport currently meets safety standards and has not been impacted by haze.

Between August 1 and August 21, 2026, the airport served a total of 40,336 users, including 19,897 arriving passengers and 20,439 departing passengers. To prepare for potential haze, the airport has installed air conditioning and air purifiers in passenger terminals and has placed the Health Quarantine Office on standby. If smoke levels rise, passengers will be advised to wear masks.

Airport authorities are coordinating with the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), AirNav, police, and airlines to monitor weather and hotspots in real-time. Authorities have also warned the public against burning waste or land, noting that actions endangering flight safety may result in criminal sanctions.
