Apucarana City Council Presidency Race Heats Up

Eleven councilors in the municipality of Apucarana will elect a new council president for a two‑year term after the October municipal elections. The contest is open to any of the council members, with councilor Tiago Cordeiro (PDT) drawing criticism for allegedly abandoning former allies to gain the mayor’s support.

The local Avante party confirmed candidacies for state deputy from councilor Moisés Tavares and for the cultural figure Valdeci Olimpio (Baré). Meanwhile, several mayors in the region have pledged support for Sandro Alex’s gubernatorial bid, which is backed by Governor Ratinho Junior. A public hearing on a request for municipal financing to purchase heavy machinery and fund infrastructure projects is scheduled, with the council vote set for Friday.
