Apucarana initiates plan to settle R$ 500 million municipal debt

The municipality of Apucarana has moved toward resolving a long-standing debt that has persisted for decades. According to Councilman Guilherme Livoti, the debt, which was once in the billions, currently stands at approximately R$ 500 million.

The proposed solution involves a 30-year repayment plan with monthly installments reaching roughly R$ 1.5 million. By utilizing a constitutional amendment, the municipality aims to pay the debt without the incidence of interest, allowing funds that would have gone to banks to be redirected toward local investments and improvements.

Livoti noted that while he frequently criticizes the administration of Mayor Rodolfo Mota, he recognized the Mayor's efforts in negotiating and articulating this financial resolution. The debt situation had previously led to the suspension of transfers from the Municipal Participation Fund (FPM) last year.
