WHO report finds two in three European youths experienced childhood abuse

A recent study by the World Health Organization (WHO) reveals that approximately two in three young people in Europe, Norway, and Iceland report having experienced abuse, neglect, or domestic violence during childhood. The survey, which included 26,000 individuals aged 18 to 30, found that one in five respondents had faced four or more types of adverse childhood experiences. This demographic shows a higher likelihood of experiencing and perpetrating violence, often linked to cyberbullying and long-term mental health challenges.

In Brazil, various criminal incidents have been reported, including a series of domestic violence and femicide cases across several states. In Rio Grande do Sul, femicides have reached 59 in 2026. Other notable incidents include a man arrested for attempting to suffocate a 12-year-old girl in Blumenau, a military captain investigated for assaulting women in Maranhão, and a high-profile case in São Paulo involving a lieutenant colonel accused of murdering his wife.

Additionally, legal proceedings continue for a man in Cuiabá accused of killing his wife for her assets, and investigations are ongoing regarding a fatal shooting in Santa Tereza do Oeste and a stabbing in Rio Branco.
