Apucarana recovery efforts face logistics and water supply challenges

Following severe storms in Apucarana, Brazil, local authorities and residents are managing the aftermath of significant infrastructure damage. Mayor Rodolfo Mota reported that over 700 families have received aid, with more than 8,000 tiles distributed to repair damaged homes. To prevent fraud and duplication, the municipality has implemented a registration system based on residential addresses.

However, the replenishment of roofing materials has faced delays. A logistics bottleneck at a supplier factory in Curitiba has stalled a new shipment of tiles, as high demand across Paraná and Santa Catarina has impacted dispatch operations. Local authorities stated that the transport is currently awaiting loading and is expected to be released soon.

In addition to housing repairs, residents in the Afonso Alves de Camargo neighborhood are facing ongoing water shortages. While electricity has been restored in some areas, several streets report a lack of running water since the storm on Monday. Residents have contacted Sanepar, the water utility, regarding the disruption to sanitation and basic hygiene services.
