APUCV calls for national protest over Venezuelan university bonus disputes
The Association of Professors of the Central University of Venezuela (APUCV) has called for a national protest following disputes over the Professional Responsibility Bonus (BRP). While the association described the bonus allocation as a partial achievement resulting from recent mobilizations, they criticized several aspects of its implementation.
Key grievances include the exclusion of retired professors, administrative staff, and manual laborers from the benefit. The APUCV also reported significant technical failures and inconsistencies regarding the payment process conducted through the state-run Sistema Patria platform. According to the union, some educators did not receive payments at all, while others received amounts that did not reflect their professional dedication or seniority.
The association further denounced the use of bonuses as a substitute for base salaries, noting that some base wages have fallen below one dollar. They criticized government policies such as memorandum 2792 and ONAPRE instructions, arguing that the current system of 'de-salaryization' and the use of the Patria system undermine university financial autonomy and labor stability.
