Aqaba port expansion projects prioritized by Jordanian PM
Jordanian Prime Minister Jaafar Hassan has directed the acceleration of expansion and development projects within the Aqaba port system to enhance regional competitiveness and logistics capabilities. During an inspection of the port operations and a meeting with the Aqaba Port Management and Operations Company, Hassan emphasized the importance of transforming regional challenges into opportunities for trade and transport.
A key focus of the development plan includes the Aqaba oil port, where expansion projects aim to increase capacity over the next two years to bolster energy security and establish Aqaba as a primary hub for supplying petroleum derivatives to neighboring countries.
Additional strategic infrastructure initiatives mentioned include the recently launched Aqaba–Shidiya–Ma'an railway project and the Aqaba–Ma'an land port. Furthermore, the government has implemented measures to streamline handling and clearance procedures, increase storage capacity, and support transit trade. The Prime Minister also noted that the recent provision of natural gas to industrial clusters in Aqaba and Al-Quwayrah is expected to reduce production costs and support Jordanian exports.
