AQIS rebuilds operational capacity and expands digital recruitment in India

Al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) is actively rebuilding its operational capabilities and expanding recruitment efforts in India, according to intelligence officials. The group has reportedly established approximately eight bases in Afghanistan over the last three years. These facilities serve as training camps for weapons, explosives, and modern technologies, including artificial intelligence, drone operations, and encryption.

Security officials have noted a renewed focus on digital radicalization to recruit young people in India, specifically targeting the states of Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Kerala. Uttar Pradesh has emerged as a primary area of concern due to historical links between the group’s early leadership and the state.

The resurgence of AQIS coincides with increased activity from the Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISKP). Officials warn that competition between these two rival militant organizations could further destabilize the region.
