Aquaculture and fishing sectors receive climate relief funds in Peru and Chile
In Peru, formalised aquaculturists in the Puno region can now access preferential financing to mitigate the effects of the El Niño phenomenon. Through the National Fund for Fisheries Development (Fondepes), the Extraordinary Credit Program offers loans of up to 120,000 soles with a 1% annual interest rate. The program includes a ten-month grace period and no down payment, targeting small and micro-enterprises to ensure production continuity and regional employment.
In Chile, the Institute for the Sustainable Development of Artisanal Fisheries and Small-Scale Aquaculture (Indespa) has extended the application deadline for an economic reactivation fund. This fund, totaling 600 million pesos, is intended to repair or replace equipment and assets damaged by storms and swells that affected coastal areas from Antofagasta to Los Ríos. The support covers extraction tools, such as engines and boats, as well as processing and commercialization infrastructure.
