AquaTerra proposes US$370 million desalination plant in La Serena

AquaTerra SpA, through its subsidiary Desaladora La Serena SpA, has submitted an environmental impact assessment for a US$370 million multipurpose desalination plant in La Serena, Chile. Located in the Punta Porotos sector, approximately 18 kilometers north of the city, the project aims to address water security in the country’s north-central region.

The facility is designed for a maximum capacity of 2,000 liters per second. The development is planned in several stages: construction is slated to begin in 2028, with the first operational phase reaching 500 liters per second in 2031. Subsequent expansions are scheduled for 2034 and 2038, with the full capacity expected by 2041. The project includes a planned closure phase in 2071.
