Aquincum Museum to host Celtic Samhain event in Budapest

The Aquincum Museum in Budapest is set to host its annual Samhain celebration, an event dedicated to the Celtic spiritual heritage of the region. The program, which marks the transition into winter, features historical demonstrations, craft workshops, fire-related productions, ritual dances, and divination activities.

Before the establishment of the Roman city of Aquincum, Celtic communities inhabited the banks of the Danube. Archaeological findings, including a cemetery on Csepel Island, reveal that these groups engaged in metalworking, agriculture, and craftsmanship. While Roman rule eventually superseded Celtic dominance, elements of their language and customs persisted for a time.

The museum's Samhain event, now in its seventh year, aims to preserve the spiritual legacy of Celtic paganism in the Budapest area through educational and immersive experiences.
