AR glasses industry enters phase of accelerated commercialization
The augmented reality (AR) glasses industry is entering a phase of accelerated commercialization, driven by the integration of AI foundation models and advanced near-eye display technologies. Global shipments of AR glasses are projected to exceed 1 million units in 2026, according to TrendForce.
Major global technology companies are pursuing diverse hardware roadmaps. Meta is utilizing a dual-track strategy involving MicroLED technology for prototypes and LCoS technology for consumer markets. Samsung is simultaneously developing AI glasses and MicroLED AR glasses, while Apple is working on the commercial rollout of AI glasses under the codename N50. Google is focusing on ecosystem development through partnerships with companies like Samsung, XREAL, and Warby Parker.
In contrast to the ecosystem-focused approach of global giants, Chinese manufacturers are prioritizing immediate market execution and industrial capital integration. Current market offerings include various specialized models, such as RayNeo Air 4 Pro for entertainment, professional-grade glasses featuring AMOLED teleprompters and AI translation, and AI-integrated glasses designed for content creators with 8MP cameras and real-time Q&A capabilities.
