Arab League holds first in‑person expert meeting on youth, peace and security

The Arab League’s General Secretariat hosted the inaugural in‑person meeting of the Arab expert team on youth, peace and security on 5‑6 August 2026 at its headquarters in Cairo. The gathering was organised by the League’s Social Affairs sector – Youth and Sports Department – in cooperation with the United Nations Population Fund’s regional office for Arab states.

Minister‑Commissioner Faisal Ghasal highlighted the meeting’s alignment with decisions of the Arab Ministers of Youth and Sports and relevant UN Security Council resolutions. The expert team, comprising representatives from Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Somalia, Kuwait, Libya, Egypt and Morocco, discussed regional and national priorities, drafted an annual work plan, exchanged best practices and identified implementation challenges. A 2027 programme to advance the youth‑peace‑security agenda was also prepared, with the meeting’s outcomes to be submitted to the Arab Ministers of Youth and Sports for further action.
