Arab League Secretary-General visits Khartoum to support Sudanese dialogue
Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Fahmy visited Khartoum to advocate for a Sudanese-led dialogue aimed at achieving political and social stability. During his visit, Fahmy met with the heads of Sudan’s Sovereignty Council and Council of Ministers, including Army Commander Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and Prime Minister Kamil Idris.
Fahmy emphasized that the Arab League supports a purely Sudanese dialogue to ensure the participation of the people in rebuilding their state. He called for a clear action plan with specific practical steps and topics to organize the process and build trust among political forces. The Secretary-General reiterated the League's commitment to protecting Sudan's sovereignty, unity, and national institutions.
The Arab League is working alongside a five-party mechanism—which includes the United Nations, the African Union, IGAD, and the European Union—to resolve disputes between Sudanese powers and prepare for a political process. This diplomatic push follows the ongoing conflict between the Sudanese Army and the Rapid Support Forces that has persisted since April 2023.
