Arab Parliament opposes withdrawal of Palestinian state recognition

Mohammed Al-Yamahi, President of the Arab Parliament, has issued official letters to the European Parliament and the National Assembly and National Council of Slovenia. The communications express categorical rejection of any intentions to withdraw recognition of the State of Palestine or to move the Slovenian embassy to occupied Jerusalem.

Al-Yamahi warned that such actions would violate international law and undermine efforts toward a two-state solution. He emphasized that recognition of Palestine is a legal and moral obligation regarding the Palestinian people's right to self-determination. He further noted that moving an embassy to Jerusalem would violate UN Security Council Resolution 478 (1980) and other relevant international resolutions.

In his message to the European Parliament, the President called for the use of parliamentary tools to maintain European support for Palestinian rights and to prevent the legitimization of settlement policies. He cited the July 2024 advisory opinion from the International Court of Justice, which stated that all states are committed to not recognizing the illegal situation arising from the Israeli occupation.
