Arab Parliament welcomes UN decision on Palestinian participation

The Arab Parliament has welcomed a United Nations General Assembly decision to allow Palestine to participate in the 81st session of the General Assembly. The resolution was passed with a significant majority of 152 countries, while 3 countries opposed and 4 abstained.

Arab Parliament President Mohammed Al-Yamahi stated that the broad international vote serves as a clear rejection of attempts to silence the Palestinian people within the international organization. He emphasized that the decision is a victory for the right to participation and representation under the rules of multilateralism and international legitimacy.

Al-Yamahi underscored that the vote affirms the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people, specifically the right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent state with Jerusalem as its capital. He noted that Palestine will remain present in the United Nations and all international forums, asserting that political restrictions cannot undermine its right to representation. Under the approved resolution, Palestine will participate in the General Assembly's public deliberations through a pre-recorded message to the President to be presented in the assembly hall.
