Arab Women Film Days begins in Malmö and Helsingborg

The tenth edition of Arab Women Film Days, organized by the Malmö Arab Film Festival (MAFF), has commenced in Sweden. The event features a cinematic and cultural program held across the cities of Malmö and Helsingborg.

In Malmö, the program began at Panorama Cinema with the film ‘Palestine 36’. The schedule includes a seminar titled ‘Stories Beyond Borders: The Image of the Arab Woman in Exile Through Cinema’, which explores themes of identity, belonging, and memory. The Malmö segment also features five short films and concludes with the feature film ‘Love in Tangier’ alongside traditional music and cuisine.

The festival will move to Helsingborg on October 9 and 10. The Helsingborg program, hosted primarily at Dunkers Kulturhus and the city library, will include feature films, documentaries, short films, school screenings, and family-oriented activities.

Mohammed Kablawi, founder and president of the Malmö Arab Film Festival, stated that the initiative, which began in 2015, aims to move beyond simply seeing women on screen to questioning who tells the stories and how the images are constructed.
