Araban district begins acur harvest for winter pickles
The harvest of acur, a key ingredient for winter pickles, has begun in the Araban district of Gaziantep. Grown in the fertile Araban Plain, the crop is highly valued in Gaziantep and the wider Southeast Anatolia region for its crunchy texture and unique aroma.
Farmers plant acur in mid-September as a second crop following the garlic harvest. Depending on weather conditions, the harvest typically continues through the end of October. Local farmer Yusuf Karataş reported harvesting approximately 200 kilograms of the product daily, selling it at a field price of 30 TL per kilogram.
Hasan Altun, President of the Araban Chamber of Agriculture and Garlic Producers Union, stated that demand for the product has risen significantly as residents begin their seasonal winter food preparations.
