Aracaju vice mayor demands transparency after education director's dismissal

Vice‑mayor Ricardo Marques of Aracaju called for total transparency after the municipal education secretary’s finance director was removed from office. The director was dismissed following a police investigation that seized R$240,000 and probed alleged irregularities in the Secretaria Municipal de Educação’s finances. In a video posted to social media, Marques said public money belongs to the people and urged that any wrongdoing be proven and punished, stating, “Se tudo estiver correto, que seja comprovado. Se houver irregularidades, que os responsáveis respondam. Sem proteção, sem passar pano.” He emphasized his commitment to truth and accountability.

The removal of the director and the vice‑mayor’s demand for openness highlight concerns over the management of public funds in the city’s education system.
