Aracati launches municipal disaster risk reduction plan
The municipality of Aracati, Ceará, has launched a plan to develop a Municipal Risk Reduction Plan (PMRR) to prevent natural disasters. Technical teams from the Geological Service of Brazil (SGB) and the Ministry of Cities are conducting studies to map high-risk areas through a participatory process involving local residents, community leaders, and civil society.
The initiative includes field research to identify terrain instability and hydrological risks. Following the mapping, a final report will classify areas into medium, high, or very high risk levels. The plan will propose non-structural measures for risk reduction and specific mitigation interventions for the most vulnerable zones to support urban planning and disaster prevention.
