Arad Airport faces prolonged aviation fuel shortage

The Arad Airport in Romania is unable to receive aviation kerosene and AVGAS 100LL for an extended period. Official notices indicate that kerosene was unavailable on 4 August at 14:32 and again on 12 August at 07:00, and that AVGAS cannot be supplied from 1 August through 31 August 2026. As a result, airlines must carry enough fuel for a round‑trip or arrange refuelling at other airports. A flight operating the irregular Arad‑Antalya route had to stop in Bucharest on 5 August 2026 to refuel.

The shortage stems from the fuel supplier’s inability to deliver, with the tanker blocked for a week at Năvodari awaiting a slot to travel the 800 km to Arad. The situation mirrors a brief kerosene outage at Brașov Airport in late 2025 and early 2026, but the Arad disruption is expected to last weeks rather than hours.
