Arad Airport takes over Timișoara flights for three weeks

Timișoara International Airport has suspended all landing and takeoff operations for three weeks to undergo runway renovation and expansion works. The closure began on November 2, 2026, and is expected to last until November 22, with normal operations resuming on November 23.

During this period, approximately 50,000 passengers are expected to be redirected to Arad International Airport. Arad will handle between seven and ten scheduled flights per day, serving destinations including Brussels-Charleroi, Barcelona, Milan-Bergamo, and Rome. Airlines such as Wizz Air, HiSky, and Tarom are relocating operations to Arad, while Lufthansa and Turkish Airlines have suspended their Timișoara services during the works.

To accommodate the surge in traffic, Arad Airport invested approximately 1.5 million lei in infrastructure, primarily focusing on tripling its parking capacity through an automated payment system. The airport staff has also been bolstered by 90 employees transferred from Timișoara. Travelers are advised that no organized transport is provided between Timișoara and Arad, and they must arrange their own travel between the two cities.
