Arad launches 1‑leu public transport tickets, free rides on Fridays

The municipal transport operator CTP Arad has completed technical preparations to introduce the cheapest public‑transport fares in Romania. From 1 August, a single ticket will cost 1 leu and be valid for 24 hours on both trams and buses, replacing the current 4.5‑leu ticket that is valid for 90 minutes. Weekly and monthly passes will also be reduced to 5 lei and 20 lei respectively.

The city council approved the fare cut on 27 May, citing goals of lowering vehicle emissions and traffic congestion. Riders can purchase tickets at station kiosks, the CTP office, or via the "Transport Public Arad" mobile app, which also provides real‑time vehicle tracking. The "Green Friday" programme will continue, offering free travel on every Friday. Director Claudiu Godja noted a staffing shortfall of 15 conductors and five bus drivers, which the company is addressing through training programmes.
