Aradippou flood protection plans following heavy rainfall
Following recent flooding in the Aradippou Municipality on September 18, the Larnaca District Administration Organization (EOAL) and local municipal officials held an emergency meeting to assess damage and plan interventions. Technical experts are conducting evaluations of problematic areas where heavy rainfall and stormwater accumulation caused issues.
To address these vulnerabilities, EOAL has launched a tender for a €300,000 study to design comprehensive flood protection networks for residential areas in Aradippou, specifically targeting zones vulnerable to runoff from the Kalo Chorio river basin. This study will utilize hydrological and hydraulic analysis alongside digital tools to create a long-term infrastructure plan.
The subsequent implementation of these flood protection works is estimated to cost approximately €3 million. According to EOAL President Angelos Chatzicharlampous, the Ministry of Interior is expected to fund the project as previously announced. The municipality is also working on projects to protect the city center, while seeking necessary financial resources for completion.
