Aragón Government begins heritage protection process for El Cipotegato
The Government of Aragón has initiated the procedure to declare ‘El Cipotegato de Tarazona’ as an intangible cultural heritage asset. The official opening of the file is scheduled for publication in the Official Gazette of Aragón (BOA) on August 27.
Following publication, a maximum period of 18 months will begin for the final resolution. The timing coincides with the start of the major festivities in honor of San Atilano in Tarazona, where the Cipotegato figure plays a central role in various religious and ceremonial acts.
The request was submitted by the Fundación Tarazona Monumental. The documentation describes the Cipotegato as a primary identity symbol for the community and a first-order heritage asset that holds deep historical significance and cultural traditions.
