Aragón reports rising female entrepreneurship and biotech potential

In the province of Teruel, women are increasingly leading new business ventures, particularly in rural areas. According to data from the GEM report cited by Jessica Fernández, director of the Fundación Aragón Emprende, women lead 60% of new enterprises in villages with fewer than 500 inhabitants. In the rural tourism sector, women represent 55% of leaders. Additionally, women now hold titles for 20% of agricultural holdings in Teruel, a figure double the average for the wider Aragón region, driven largely by women under the age of 40.

Separately, Jessika Valero González of MIMO Biosciences has highlighted the strategic importance of the global biotechnology race for the region. As artificial intelligence and life sciences converge, Aragón is positioned to participate in this technological shift. Valero emphasizes that capitalizing on this sector will require strengthened collaboration between universities, research centers, businesses, and administrations to attract talent and investment.
