Aragon celebrates Day of the Pillar with traditional festivities

Traditions and folklore take center stage in Aragon as celebrations for the Day of the Pillar unfold. In Teruel, the City Council and the Amigos de la Jota artistic group are organizing events for October 11 and 12. This year’s festivities are particularly significant as they mark the 50th anniversary of the Amigos de la Jota group. The program includes jota rounds, flower offerings, and a festival at the Plaza del Torico, featuring approximately 60 members performing Aragonese folklore through song and dance.

In Zaragoza, the city celebrates its patron saint, the Virgen del Pilar, with festivities running from October 10 to 18. The celebrations involve large crowds gathering at the Basilica, characterized by regional costumes, traditional music, and community gatherings that define the city’s cultural identity.
