Aragon extends road restrictions near San Juan de la Peña

The Government of Aragon has extended traffic restrictions on the A-1603 highway until November 30. The affected stretch is located between Santa Cruz de la Serós and the Botaya highway junction in the province of Huesca.

The decision follows risks stemming from a forest fire that occurred on August 10 near Las Peñas de Riglos, which burned approximately 18,000 hectares and reached the vicinity of the San Juan de la Peña Natural Monument. Authorities warn that the damaged forest area and local topography increase the risk of landslides onto the highway.

Access is not entirely prohibited; it remains permitted for essential activities, including agricultural and livestock operations, as well as personnel responsible for maintaining public services. The restriction aims to ensure safety while recovery and surveillance efforts continue in the area.
