Aragon forest firefighters announce indefinite strike
Forest firefighters in Aragon are initiating an indefinite strike starting Tuesday to protest labor conditions and insufficient resources during a highly destructive wildfire season. The unions representing the workers at the public company Sarga—including CGT, OSTA, UGT, and CCOO—have declared that the Infoar prevention and extinction operation is “structurally undersized.”
To ensure public safety, the workers have committed to maintaining 100% minimum services, meaning all fires and emergencies will continue to be addressed normally. The labor actions and protests, including a planned demonstration in Jaca this coming Sunday, will be conducted exclusively on weekly rest days to avoid interrupting emergency responses.
Workers have reported significant grievances, including excessive accumulated working hours, lack of respected rest periods, and inadequate logistics, such as delays in receiving food and supplies while on the front lines.
