Aragon regulates extracurricular activities and school trips

The Government of Aragon has published a new regulation in the Official Gazette of Aragon (BOA) to govern extracurricular activities, complementary activities, and educational trips outside of school premises. The measure aims to establish common criteria and provide legal certainty for teachers, students, and families by standardizing supervision across all public centers in the autonomous community.

Under the new rules, extracurricular activities must be integrated into the center's Annual General Programming (PGA), receive authorization from the School Council, and include a risk assessment plan. While participation remains voluntary for students and staff, complementary activities tied to the curriculum are mandatory. A notable provision includes a minimum 12-hour rest period for teachers following the return from an activity before they must resume their duties.

The executive, led by Jorge Azcón, presents this order as a transitional instrument intended to reduce administrative uncertainty and clarify the civil and administrative responsibilities of accompanying teachers. This regulation serves as a precursor to a more definitive framework expected for the 2027/2028 academic year.
