Aragonese royal remains return to San Juan de la Peña
The Government of Aragon has returned the remains of the first kings of Aragon and other members of the royal lineage to the Royal Pantheon of the Monastery of San Juan de la Peña. The remains had been evacuated on August 13 to the Huesca Museum as a preventive measure due to the threat posed by the Las Peñas de Riglos forest fire.
The return was formalized during a brief ceremony attended by Vice President Mar Vaquero, Minister of Environment and Tourism Luis Biendicho, the Mayor of Jaca Carlos Serrano, and the Grand Brother of the Royal Brotherhood of San Juan de la Peña, Félix Longás. The remains remained under custody in Huesca for 74 days until environmental conditions and monastery access allowed for their safe return.
