Araguaia-Xingu Integrated Development Region proposed in Brazilian Senate

A bill in the Brazilian Senate, Complementary Law Project (PLP) 174/2026, proposes the creation of the Araguaia-Xingu Integrated Development Region (Ride). This initiative aims to establish a shared management regime for 15 municipalities located along the border between the states of Pará and Mato Grosso.

The project seeks to unify public investments and strategies in critical sectors, including transportation infrastructure, logistics, healthcare, education, security, land regularization, energy, and environmental management. A tripartite administrative council, composed of representatives from the federal government, state governments, and local municipalities, would be responsible for defining development priorities and monitoring results.

The proposal, authored by Senators Zequinha Marinho and Wellington Fagundes, also includes the creation of the Special Development Program of Araguaia-Xingu to reduce socioeconomic inequalities in the region. The initiative is intended to ensure the continuity of public services and legal security for local administrators while a territorial dispute between Pará and Mato Grosso is under review by the Supreme Federal Court (STF).
