Brazil reports various criminal convictions and judicial rulings

Various judicial rulings and criminal cases have been reported across Brazil. In Araguaína, Joatan Rodrigues da Silva was sentenced to 16 years of imprisonment and six months of detention for the death of Auzineide Alencar Cavalcante. The victim was an elderly woman struck while walking on a sidewalk by a vehicle driven by Silva under the influence of alcohol. The jury recognized 'dolo eventual', meaning the defendant assumed the risk of causing death.

Other significant legal developments include a 34-year sentence for a man in Santa Catarina for the femicide of his partner, and a 56-year sentence for a man in Rio Negrinho who attacked his ex-girlfriend and employees at a supermarket. In Piauí, a 70-year-old man received a 16-year sentence for a homicide committed in 2011.

In Mato Grosso, the judiciary maintained the arrest of businesswoman Julinere Goulart Bentos, accused of ordering the murder of lawyer Renato Nery, while also revoking the preventive detention of lawyer Paulo Roberto Gomes dos Santos in a separate fatal accident case. Additionally, a driver in Sorriso was sentenced to over six years for a 2016 fatal collision involving a motorcycle while driving intoxicated.
