Arajet becomes Dominican Republic's second largest airline
Dominican airline Arajet has emerged as the second largest carrier in the Dominican Republic by passenger volume, surpassing American Airlines in September 2026. According to Civil Aviation Board statistics, Arajet transported 158,407 passengers point-to-point, representing a 62% year-on-year increase from September 2025. When including connecting passengers, the airline reported a total of 180,841 travelers.
JetBlue remains the market leader with 243,955 passengers. Arajet's performance places it ahead of other major carriers including Copa Airlines, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, and United Airlines. The airline's primary markets include the United States, Colombia, and Argentina, with Bogotá serving as its highest-traffic individual route.
In addition to Arajet's growth, Sky Cana has announced a progressive return to the aeronautical sector. The company is planning to begin charter operations within the Caribbean, starting with the acquisition of an Embraer ERJ-145LR expected to arrive in the Dominican Republic by late October 2026.
