Arapiraca police respond to separate incidents involving custody and threats

Two distinct incidents involving law enforcement or custody occurred in Arapiraca, Alagoas, on Monday.

A detainee escaped from the Hospital de Emergência do Agreste (HEA) after being handcuffed. According to police reports, a military officer had removed the handcuffs to allow the man to bathe and then reapplied them. The individual was discovered missing during a routine patrol. Local police conducted searches in the surrounding area but have not yet located the escaped person.

In a separate event, a 60-year-old civil police officer was reported for threatening neighbors in the Ouro Preto neighborhood. The neighbors alleged that the officer, who was armed, had repeatedly accused them of theft without evidence. Upon arrival, military police found the officer appearing disoriented and speaking incoherently. Civil police negotiated his peaceful surrender, and he handed over an unloaded pistol. The officer was taken to a health unit for medical evaluation, and a report was filed regarding the threats.
