Araraquara boy dies after choking on cheese bread

A two-year-old boy, Valentim Gabriel de Souza Presente, died after choking on a piece of cheese bread (pão de queijo) at a supermarket in the Vila Ferroviária neighborhood of Araraquara, São Paulo.

Security camera footage captured the efforts of family members and supermarket employees to clear the child's airway. Although he was rushed to the Central UPA (Emergency Care Unit), he arrived without vital signs. Medical staff attempted resuscitation maneuvers, but were unsuccessful. The death has been attributed to probable mechanical asphyxia, and the case has been registered as a suspicious death by the São Paulo Public Security Secretariat.

The boy was buried on Wednesday in the Municipal Cemetery of Bariri. The incident has highlighted the importance of following American Heart Association (AHA) guidelines for choking emergencies, which include specific protocols for infants, children, and adults.
