Ararat-Armenia advances to Europa League as Romanian football mourns two legends
Romanian football is mourning the loss of two prominent figures. Arpad Szucs, an emblematic former player for FC Bihor, passed away at age 83 following an apartment fire in Oradea. Authorities believe the fire was likely caused by a faulty electrical cable. Additionally, Nicolae Ungureanu, a legendary defender for Universitatea Craiova and a member of the ‘Craiova Maxima’ generation, died at age 69. Ungureanu, who also played for Steaua and represented Romania at Euro 1984, was found deceased by a friend after watching a match.
In European competition, Ararat-Armenia secured a place in the UEFA Europa League league phase after a dramatic 2-1 aggregate victory over Universitatea Craiova. The Armenian side's upcoming schedule includes matches against AC Milan, Salzburg, and Jagiellonia Białystok. Following their elimination, Universitatea Craiova will compete in the UEFA Conference League, where they are set to face opponents including Brighton, Getafe, and FC Copenhagen.
