Brazil celebrates Black Awareness Month with diverse cultural events
Various regions across Brazil are hosting diverse cultural, educational, and artistic programs to observe Black Awareness Month. These initiatives focus on celebrating Afro-Brazilian heritage, promoting racial equality, and fostering entrepreneurship.
In João Pessoa, the Feira de Pretas e Pretos is occupying the Historic Center to showcase Black artists, artisans, and entrepreneurs. Similarly, São Paulo is hosting the third Festival Sesc Culturas Negras, featuring music, cinema, and debates on ancestrality and resistance.
Educational and historical reflections are central to the month's activities. In Bahia, the State Attorney General's Office is launching the “Fragmentos de Memória” exhibition, which uses artificial intelligence to reconstruct the faces of enslaved and freed individuals from historical documents. In Rio Grande do Norte, UniCatólica is hosting debates on human rights and racial equity, while Atibaia is celebrating with the “Novembro Dandara” program, including the reopening of the Black Memorial.
Other regional highlights include a culinary and tourism seminar in Votuporanga, cultural showcases in Rio Branco, and the “Circuito Novembro Negro” in Carapicuíba, all aimed at strengthening the visibility and rights of the Black community.
