Araruama teenager hides pregnancy and newborn from family

A 17-year-old girl in Araruama, Rio de Janeiro, gave birth to a baby girl at her home on Saturday while her family was away. After keeping the newborn hidden for the weekend, the teenager contacted the Military Police on Sunday, claiming she had found the infant crying in a vacant lot.

Police officers were unable to find the child at the reported location. During their investigation, they discovered the newborn inside the teenager's own residence. Security camera footage failed to corroborate the girl's account of her movements to the alleged site.

On Monday, the teenager was taken to the 118th Police Station, where she admitted to being the mother. Her mother has since been informed and has committed to supporting both her daughter and granddaughter. The Civil Police are continuing their investigation into the circumstances of the incident.
