Arauca approves ten-year cultural policy roadmap

The Departmental Assembly of Arauca has approved the Cultural Public Policy for 2026–2035 with 11 favorable votes. This ten-year roadmap aims to protect and promote the region's artistic, historical, and traditional heritage. The initiative, supported by Governor Renson Martínez Prada, serves as a long-term plan to safeguard both material and immaterial heritage, strengthen cultural training, and expand opportunities for local creators and organizations.

Additionally, the approval facilitates progress toward establishing a dedicated Secretariat of Culture and Tourism to strengthen institutional support.

On a national level, the debate regarding the economic role of culture has resurfaced in Colombia. During a political control debate, Minister of Cultures Paola Holguín defended the economic dimension of the sector, stating that culture is a “prosperous industry that can become an important item in the economy.” She emphasized that strengthening cultural and creative industries is one of the five pillars of her administration, a stance that continues to spark discussion regarding the balance between cultural industry and artistic freedom.
