Arauca hosts environmental forum on biodiversity and savanna fires

The Arauca Departmental Assembly hosted the first environmental forum, titled ‘Arauca, Biodiversity, Water, and Environmental Conflicts’. The event brought together researchers, environmental organizations, and community members to discuss the region's natural heritage and ecological challenges.

Key topics included a two-decade study of the Arauca River, spanning from its upper basin to its mouth at the Orinoco River, examining the social and environmental interactions within the ecosystem. The Orinoquía Biodiversa Foundation also presented conservation strategies and data on local flora and fauna.

Additionally, the forum addressed the issue of savanna burning, noting that approximately 20,000 hectares are affected annually. Participants examined the causes and environmental consequences of these fires.
