Araucanía, Chile receives $25 million sports equipment for 227 community workshops

The Chilean Ministry of Sport and the National Institute of Sports (IND) allocated more than 25 million pesos in sports equipment to 227 workshops across the 32 communes of the Araucanía region. The distribution, attended by municipal sports officials and regional authorities, includes balls, mats, functional implements and other recreational gear intended for children, youth, seniors, indigenous peoples, people with disabilities and even inmates.

Regional Sport Secretary Mauricio Martínez Jaramillo said the aim is to “bring sport to all territories and communities of Araucanía,” stressing that the initiative is part of the 2026 Programme of Sport and Social Participation to combat physical inactivity and promote healthier lifestyles in vulnerable areas.

The equipment rollout is expected to benefit hundreds of participants in urban and rural neighborhoods, schools, community centers and other local venues, fostering physical activity, social cohesion and improved well‑being throughout the region.
