Arauco monitors primates in the Rio Sucuriú corridor

The Sucuriú Project, an initiative by Arauco in partnership with Sauá Consultoria Ambiental, is conducting extensive primate monitoring in the Rio Sucuriú corridor in Inocência, Mato Grosso do Sul. The project tracks various primate groups, including the Baru, Pequi, and Bacuri bugios, documenting their diet, group composition, births, and offspring development.

Using methodologies such as camera traps, the monitoring has also recorded other wildlife, including giant anteaters, tapirs, maned wolves, giant armadillos, ocelots, and white-lipped peccaries. This data serves as a baseline to evaluate environmental mitigation measures, such as the construction of two wildlife overpasses with approximately 180-meter spans designed to reconnect fragmented vegetation areas.

According to biodiversity specialist Gonzalo Flores and environmental executive manager Camila Paschoal, the long-term study aims to integrate fauna knowledge into environmental decision-making and verify the effectiveness of conservation actions.
