Arbeiderpartiet removes webpage featuring interest rate cut promises

Nordland Arbeiderparti has removed a webpage featuring a controversial election campaign poster promising interest rate cuts. The poster, which featured Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre and Finance Minister Jens Stoltenberg, posed the question: ‘Interest rate cuts for all – or tax cuts for a few?’

The removal occurred on Thursday, the same day Norges Bank raised the policy rate for the second time this year, increasing it from 4% to 4.5%. While the webpage was still active on Thursday morning before the central bank's decision, it had been taken down by Thursday evening.

Arbeiderpartiet communication chief Emma Giskås stated that the website was created during the campaign to illustrate the choices facing voters and noted that it is natural to update websites regularly. She emphasized a distinction between the right-wing focus on tax cuts for the wealthy and the Labor Party's focus on secure economic management for everyday citizens. Opposition leaders, including Progress Party leader Sylvi Listhaug, criticized the move, suggesting the removal was an attempt to hide misleading content following the failure to deliver on previous economic promises.
