Arbeiterkammer Oberösterreich hit by cyberattack

The Chamber of Labour (Arbeiterkammer) in Upper Austria has been targeted by a cyberattack. Unknown perpetrators gained access to parts of the organization's IT systems on Monday, August 10.

While the organization has confirmed that attackers accessed data, the full extent of the breach remains unclear. The Chamber noted that the perpetrators engaged in deliberate attempts to erase their tracks, making it difficult to determine exactly which personal member data may have been compromised. In response, the entire IT infrastructure was immediately moved to a secured, isolated environment.

Authorities, including the police and the data protection agency, have been notified. As a precaution, the Chamber is informing all members that their stored data may be affected. Members will receive official notifications via postal mail in accordance with Article 34 of the GDPR.

The organization has issued a warning regarding potential phishing attempts, advising members to remain vigilant against suspicious SMS, WhatsApp, or email messages claiming to be from the Chamber, particularly those requesting banking details or mentioning payments and prizes.
