Arbeiterkammer Tirol warns of fraudulent church exit website

The Arbeiterkammer (AK) Tirol is warning citizens about a deceptive website, kirchenbeitrag.com, that offers a purported online service for exiting religious communities in Austria. The site, operated by a Delaware-based company named SmartWay Solutions LLC, uses red-and-white design elements to mimic an official government service.

While the website promises to simplify the process and save users from contacting authorities, the AK reports that the service does not actually complete the exit. Users are charged approximately 90 euros to have their data forwarded to the relevant district authorities, but they must still contact the district commission or municipal magistrate themselves to finalize the process.

In Austria, exiting a religious community is fundamentally a free service. To complete the process, individuals must provide a completed and signed exit form, proof of membership (such as a baptismal certificate), and an official photo ID to the competent authorities. The AK advises against entering personal data into unverified online forms to avoid unnecessary costs and the potential sale of data on the dark web.
