Arboriculture Congress held in Misiones, Argentina
The VII National Congress of Arboriculture and Urban Forests took place from October 8 to 10 in Posadas, Misiones. The event brought together over 200 specialists, researchers, and officials from Argentina and countries including Chile, Colombia, and Puerto Rico to discuss urban green infrastructure, biodiversity, and climate change adaptation.
During the congress, La Pampa presented its ‘Pulmones Urbanos’ (Urban Lungs) program, a climate adaptation initiative that has established 92 forested spaces across 26 localities. The program focuses on using native species to reduce vulnerability to heatwaves and intense rainfall.
Additionally, the municipality of Zapala presented research regarding the carbon stock dynamics of urban trees in Zapala between 2020 and 2026. This study was noted as one of the few presentations specifically addressing carbon footprints and was the sole contribution from the Patagonian region.
