Arbutus Biopharma announces $230 million share repurchase plan

Arbutus Biopharma has announced plans to launch a modified “Dutch Auctiontender offer to repurchase up to $230 million of its common shares. The cash offer is expected to feature a price range between $5.00 and $5.75 per share and will be funded using cash on hand.

The repurchase program is scheduled to begin on or about August 24, 2026, and is expected to expire around September 29, 2026, unless extended or terminated. The commencement of the offer is conditional upon the company obtaining specified exemptive relief in both Canada and the United States.

In addition to the share repurchase news, the company and its exclusive licensee, Genevant Sciences GmbH, recently announced the filing of three international lawsuits. These legal actions seek to enforce patents related to lipid nanoparticle (LNP) technology against Pfizer Inc., BioNTech SE, and certain affiliates.
